The Source of Modern Day Wall Fountains
Himself a highly educated man, Pope Nicholas V led the Roman Catholic Church from 1397 till 1455 and was responsible for the translation of scores of ancient texts from their original Greek into Latin. It was imperative for him to embellish the city of Rome to make it worthy of being called the capital of the Christian world. At the behest of the Pope, the Aqua Vergine, a damaged aqueduct which had carried clean drinking water into Rome from eight miles away, was restored starting in 1453. Building a mostra, an imposing commemorative fountain built by ancient Romans to memorialize the entry point of an aqueduct, was a tradition revived by Nicholas V. The Trevi Fountain now occupies the area formerly filled with a wall fountain crafted by Leon Battista Albert, an architect commissioned by the Pope. The aqueduct he had refurbished included modifications and extensions which eventually enabled it to supply water to the Trevi Fountain as well as the famed baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and the Piazza Navona. The Defining Characteristics of Classic Greek Sculpture

The Myriad Reasons to Include a Wall Fountain
The area outside your residence can be polished up by adding a wall or a garden fountain to your landscaping or garden project. Historical fountains and water features have stirred the interest of contemporary designers as well as fountain manufacturers. You can also reinforce the connection to the past by including one of these to your home's interior design.
Wall fountains are a good option if your yard is small because they do not need much space as compared to a spouting or cascading fountain. Two options to choose from include either a freestanding type with an even back set against a fence or wall in your backyard, or a wall-mounted, self-contained type which hangs on a wall. A water feature can be added to an existing wall if you include some kind of fountain mask as well as a basin to collect the water below. It is best not to attempt this job yourself as professional plumbers and masons are best suited to do this kind of work.
