"Primitive" Greek Artwork: Large Statuary

The initial freestanding sculpture was designed by the Archaic Greeks, a distinguished accomplishment since until then the sole carvings in existence were reliefs cut into walls and columns. Most of these freestanding sculptures were what is known as kouros figures, statues of young, attractive male or female (kore) Greeks. Symbolizing beauty to the Greeks, the kouroi were made to look stiff and typically had foot in front; the males were vigorous, powerful, and nude. In about 650 BC, the varieties of the kouroi became life-sized. The Archaic period was tumultuous for the Greeks as they evolved into more refined forms of federal government and art, and obtained more data about the peoples and cultures outside of Greece. Still, these clashes did little to impede the progress of the Greek civilization.Fountains Recorded History 14774576666905.jpg

Fountains Recorded by History

Towns and villages relied on practical water fountains to channel water for preparing food, washing, and cleaning from local sources like lakes, streams, or creeks. A source of water higher in elevation than the fountain was necessary to pressurize the flow and send water squirting from the fountain's nozzle, a technology without equal until the later half of the nineteenth century. Inspirational and spectacular, prominent water fountains have been crafted as memorials in most cultures. Rough in design, the 1st water fountains did not look much like modern fountains. The very first accepted water fountain was a natural stone basin created that was used as a receptacle for drinking water and ceremonial purposes. Natural stone basins are believed to have been first used around the year 2000 BC. The very first civilizations that used fountains depended on gravity to push water through spigots. These historic water fountains were created to be functional, usually situated along aqueducts, creeks and waterways to supply drinking water. Fountains with ornate decoration started to show up in Rome in approximately 6 BC, normally gods and wildlife, made with natural stone or copper-base alloy. The City of Rome had an elaborate system of aqueducts that supplied the water for the many fountains that were located throughout the community.

Keep Your Landscape Fountain Tidy

It is important to carefully maintain water fountains for them to work properly. A typical problem with fountains is that they tend to accumulate dirt and debris, so it is vital that you keep it free from this. Additionally, anywhere light from the sun mixes with still water, algae can appear. Either sea salt, hydrogen peroxide, or vinegar can be blended into the water to prevent this problem. Bleach can also be mixed into the water, however this is not an ideal option because it can harm birds or other animals.

Experts advise that the typical garden fountain undergoes a thorough scrubbing every three-four months. Before you can start cleaning it you should empty out all of the water. Next use mild soap and a soft sponge to clean inside the reservoir.Keep Landscape Fountain Tidy 076390034910305.jpg If there are any tiny grooves, use a toothbrush to get every spot. Be sure to thoroughly rinse the interior of the fountain to make sure all the soap is gone.

It is highly recommended taking the pump apart to better clean the inside and eliminate any plankton or calcium. You might want to let it soak in vinegar for a few hours to make it quicker to wash. Build-up can be a big headache, so use mineral or rain water over tap water, when possible, to eliminate this dilemma.

One final recommendation for keeping your fountain in top working condition is to check the water level every day and make sure it is full. Permitting the water level to get too low can cause damage to the pump - and you certainly do not want that!
